President Barack Obama's second term kicks off with an Inauguration celebration attended by thousands.
Official Inaugural events include two oaths of office, a parade, a National Day of Service and two Inaugural Balls.
Below, a live video of the president's inauguration and the latest updates from the celebration.
Biden Takes Oath Sound, TV Screens MalfunctioningSome people are beginning to walk off the mall near the Washington Monument as a big-screen TV freezes and sporadically goes black.
"You kidding me?" one woman yelled.
The people here don't have tickets -- but they came out anyway. Now, they can barely hear, with sound going to robotic static and then a few lines of full sound.
Sen. Lamar Alexander Introduces Supreme Court Justice Sonia SotomayorSen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) may not strike many as the most likely speaker to take the stage minutes before President Obama takes his (ceremonial) oath of office, but because he is vice-chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, he introduced Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who then swore in Vice President Biden (ceremonially) for his second term.
Alexander's prepared remarks offered something of a nod to Republican dissatisfaction with the day's ceremonies, by way of a quote from a famous story about slavery.
“The late Alex Haley, the author of Roots, lived his life by these six words: 'Find the good and praise it,'" Alexander's prepared remarks read.
Alexander went on to laud the fact that another election has come and gone without any unrest -- a clear case of a conservative trying to find the bright side.
Here is the full text of Alexander's prepared remarks.
"Today we praise the American tradition of transferring or reaffirming immense power as we inaugurate the President of the United States.National Mall Full And Closed“We do this in a peaceful, orderly way.
“There is no mob, no coup, no insurrection.
“This is a moment when millions stop and watch.
“A moment most of us always will remember.
“A moment that is the most conspicuous and enduring symbol of our democracy.
“How remarkable that this has survived for so long in such a complex country with so much power at stake—this freedom to vote for our leaders and the restraint to respect the results.
“Last year, a tour guide at Mt. Vernon told me that our first president, George Washington, posed this question: ‘What is most important of this grand experiment, the United States?’
“And then Washington gave this answer: ‘Not the election of the first president, but the election of its second president. The peaceful transition of power is what will separate this country from every other country in the world.’
“Today we celebrate, because this is the 57th inauguration of the American president.
“Find the good and praise It.
“Now, it is my honor to introduce Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Sonia Sotomayor, who will administer the oath of office to the vice president.
“Everyone please stand.”

There are about 120 immigrant rights activists -- young undocumented immigrants, migrant workers and allies -- on the Washington Mall with advocacy group Casa de Maryland on Monday.
They walked for about 10 blocks, chanting most of the way. "What to we want?" "Immigration reform!" "When do we want it?" "Now!"
Many of the group's fellow inauguration-goers looked on with some amusement, but a few seemed excited to join in.
Nathaly Uribe, a 17-year-old undocumented high school senior, received deferred action in December. She said the policy, implemented by the president last year for young undocumented immigrants, has given them hope. But they still want broader reform, she said, and plan to remind President Barack Obama of his promise.

Acting as a painful reminder that Republicans lost the presidential election in November, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) -- a former vice presidential nominee -- was booed by inauguration-goers on Monday morning as he walked out of the Capitol.
