More than half of the organizations surveyed regularly engage with bloggers or online influencers who have authority and strong following. Most brands in India use social media to build communities while others use it to highlight news. They prefer to post generic updates instead of brand updates.Almost half of social media-savvy organizations surveyed spend 1%–5% of their marketing budget on social media, most social media budgets are below INR 10 million.Majority of social media efforts in India are managed by marketing teams. Phillip Hernandez Investigated By Social Workers Before He Allegedly Killed Son With Hatchet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Child welfare workers investigated claims of violence and drug use at a Sacramento home three weeks before authorities said a 9-year-old boy was killed by his father with a hatchet.

While representatives from the Sacramento County Child Protective Services office confirmed drug use was going on at Matthew Hernandez' home during a Feb. 4 visit, they concluded the behavior did not warrant removing the boy and his older brother, the Sacramento Bee reported Thursday.

Despite the claim, the agency said, "The children do not appear to be in any imminent danger at this time."

Matthew's father, Phillip Hernandez, has been charged with murder in the boy's Feb. 26 slaying. The 36-year-old did not enter plea during his appearance in a Sacramento County courtroom Thursday.

He was jailed without bail and is due back in court April 12.

County records did not make clear the report whether the caregiver mentioned was Hernandez. County Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Laura McCasland declined comment Thursday to The Associated Press on whether Hernandez is the caregiver cited in the report.

The report also does not mention who made the initial claims, but the boys' mother, Jessica Hernandez, told KCRA-TV that she called CPS on Feb. 4 and 5 to complain about the welfare of her children and to report that Philip Hernandez uses drugs, is violent and there were rifles inside his home.

Phillip Hernandez was convicted of domestic violence and served prison time from July 2006 to October 2007, according to state records.

The slain boy's 12-year-old brother is now in the custody of his mother, who divorced Phillip Hernandez and lives in Las Vegas, the newspaper said.

Authorities say officers found Matthew Hernandez dead from blunt-force trauma after his father allegedly had gone into the backyard to get a hatchet and, for unknown reasons, broke through a sliding glass door to get back inside.

The boy's great-grandmother who lives in the home heard the glass shatter, ran into the living room and found Hernandez standing over his sleeping son with the ax, authorities said.

The victim's brother, who was at home during the attack, was unharmed.

The county said in a written statement Thursday that it is working with law enforcement in the criminal investigation.

How to attract people to my social network website?

The best way to optimize your Facebook page is for a local audience by making sure it is set up as a Local Business. If you haven’t created your Facebook page, make sure to create your page as a Local Business.

If you have already created it, you may be able to change the category, depending on your number of fans. To check to see what category your page is listed as, go to Admin Panel > Manage > Edit Page and then Basic Information. Here you will see a category and sub-category for your business.

Once your Facebook page is set up as a local business, be sure to enter all of your local details including your street address, local phone number, and business hours. If you don’t want to list your exact street address, you can just enter the city, state, and zip code to give users an approximation of your location.

You can make the area show your website by removing your phone number and business hours from your page’s details. You just have to decide which is more important for your visitors – seeing your phone number on your Facebook page or having the ability to click through to your website. If you do want your local business information to stay intact, you can also add a status update with a link to your Facebook page, then pin the status update to the top of the page so it shows in the top left column.

By Peter Rittweger of My Social List

I'm going to do something a bit different this week. I'm going to admit defeat. Save for a handful of shows, New York is basically a buzz graveyard this week. A little festival called SXSW has tapped the city of most of its musical talent. We're talking bands, performers, promoters and even those who live to tell you about it all, like myself. I'm down here for the week and just got my WiFi hookup going so I thought I'd share some buzzable showcases with ya.

Tonight's NPR Showcase at Stubb's boasts a one two punch of indie legacy acts who couldn't be much different from one another. Both find themselves at SXSW at different points in their respective 2013 album cycles, the former having just released a much heralded record and the latter gearing up to drop a highly-anticipated major label affair. Push the Sky Away is Nick Cave's 15th studio release, and feels like quintessential Cave, despite 30 years of baritone rock deviancy. Remarkably, 10 years have elapsed since Fever to Tell helped put underground NYC music back on the map and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will begin their second decade of relevancy smack at the top of this showcase to promote their upcoming LP, Mosquito. Mercury-prize winner Alt-J provides high-level support along with Cafe Tacvba.

If you're like me, then you didn't hit the lottery to get into the NPR show, so you'll probably catch me at at my silver medal show tonight, the Vans show over at Mohawk. Vans throws some of the best free parties in Brooklyn all summer long, and their Austin bill brings two features two icons in their respective genres; punk trailblazers Iggy Pop and the Stooges and everyone's favorite Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah. Japandroids and Sky Fereira make this a one-two-three-four punch knockout.

Kendrick Lamar is probably the biggest name in the buzz game today. He's booked solid at SXSW this year and your best chance to see him is when he headlines SPIN's impressive showcase on Friday night at Stubb's with Solange Knowles, U.K. electro-pop trio CHVRCHES, Australian garage rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Ridgewood punks Parquet Courts, Trinidad Jame$ and Machinedrum.

Mohawk is holding it down with top-flight showcases all week. Ground Control Touring occupies the space on Friday night with a punk and dream pop-heavy lineup. Post-hardcore Odd Future disciples Trash Talk will be joined by Brooklyn's 2012 breakthrough band DIIV, Thurston Moore's new band, Chelsea Light Moving, Parquet Courts, Matt Mondanile's side project, Ducktails, Florida dream-punks Merchandise, Brooklyn haze poppers Widowspeak, and many more.

The most stacked lineup of the entire week might be the Pitchfork day party tomorrow. INHALES... Youth Lagoon, Toro y Moi, Foxygen, Andy Stott, Delorean, White Lung, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Parquet Courts, Mac DeMarco, Merchandise, Mikal Cronin, Waxahatchee, Autre Ne Veut, Rhye and California X... EXHALES. I almost passed out there, which is probably how you'll find me after the hard drinking that will take place during all of those sets.

I'd be remiss if I failed to mention a free show from one of the best live bands in music history, The Flaming Lips. Their psychedelic spectacle is on display on Friday night at Auditorium Shores with Jim James and Divine Fits.

It wouldn't be a trip to Austin without a trip to Emo's East, and Mad Descent and Fool's Gold have provided you with the best reason to drop by ALL DAY tomorrow. A-Trak, Flosstrodamus, Mykki Blanco, Tokiminosta, Icona Pop, Pictureplane, !!!, Andrew WK and Wavves are just a few acts on the seemingly endless bill that runs from noon til 1 a.m.

SXSW wouldn't be a REAL rager without a crazy warehouse show; and who better to play said rager than an unpredictable act like hardcore-rap hybrid Death Grips? Someone even more unpredictable... like Chief Keef. Saturday night's Boiler Room shitshow skews a bit more dubstep/EDM as the night progresses with Skream and Baauer, ensuring you'll end your SXSW dancing.

You'll have to travel 15 miles outside of Austin's city limits to catch this one, but it's at WILLIE NELSON'S RANCH. Like... THE Willie Nelson. The lineup isn't really my thing; Jim James and Phosphorescent are cool, but this one gets a special shout out for the experience.

5 Ways to Keep You From Looking Clueless on Social Media

Your social media accounts are an extension of your business. They are extremely important advertising avenues that are both efficient and do not cost much. Social media advertising can affect the intake of new and old customers as well as provide a platform to show others who you are in the community and what services you provide.

When you struggle with even one of your accounts, often you may see a reduction of visitors to your site or business. This is why keeping your social media accounts not only going but active is imperative to a successful content marketing strategy.

Social Media AccountsOne of the easiest ways to aggravate a customer is to not respond to an inquiry. You want to encourage them to seek out information privately, in some cases through personal messages. Should they encounter a problem, you do not want it posted all over your Facebook wall or Twitter page. Instead, it is important to deal with each situation privately and personally.

If they send you a message and you do not respond, they will take their problem more publicly. Even though you do not mean to ignore your customers, it can happen if you do not check your business page messages consistently.

One of the best strategies to ensure you are regularly checking your messages on your social media business page is to set up certain times every day to do a quick check. You should check messages more than once a day. Not every customer is going to want to wait 24 hours for a response. Try checking messages once in the morning and once later on in the afternoon. This enables you to stay on top of situations before they escalate into anything bigger.

The old saying is true, “You can catch more bees with honey than vinegar.” When you read a negative comment on your social media business page, your first thought is to defend your company. While this may make you feel better, other customers may see this and think you are attacking customers.

Social Media Business Page

Sometimes, it can be difficult to be the bigger person, but if you want your business to be successful and flourish, you are going to have to suck it up and respond generously. This also provides a great opportunity to check social media background checks before you go responding back to any negative comment.

Do not hesitate to acknowledge positive comments as well. It is much easier for a customer to come and complain about a business than to say something nice about them. By responding to positive comments that are posted on your business page, you are showing the customer that you appreciate them.

Everyone likes to receive a message personally from a business they like. It is not only important to respond to comments, but you also need to address them. Do not just leave a quick thank you, but give a more personal response. You may be busy with other business issues, but if you do not take the time to address comments, you may find yourself with more free time than you would like.

Spelling mistakes can make you look careless on social media today. Take the time to go over everything you are going to post on any of your business pages. One of the worst things you can do is consistently post spelling and grammar errors and expects customers to enlist you for writing services.

If you can make the mistakes on your business pages, then customers will believe you would do it with their work. There are many services you can run your posts through to automatically check for spelling errors. These are quick and do not take but a few minutes.

No one wants to do business with a “Debbie Downer” all the time. When they seek out your help, they want encouragement and support from you. Make sure you stay upbeat and positive all the time. Even during rough situations a positive attitude can be contagious and turn an entire situation around this is a great social media example. By encouraging others and motivating people, they will begin coming to you more often to seek out that attitude that they themselves are looking for.

A bipolar business page can turn off customers. They want to come to your business page with certain expectations. When you deliver content that makes no sense, customers can get flustered. Make sure the content is relevant to your business. It is ok to throw in a funny joke to keep the mood light, but make sure anything you post is politically correct and would not upset a customer. Be thoughtful in your postings and post things that can attract customers and sales.

The key to social media accounts is using quality social media tools and trying hard to not make mistakes that could ruin your image. If you follow these steps, then you’ll do great at not screwing up your social media image. What are your thoughts on this?

Social Media Vs Seo . What Is The Best Way To Get More Sales?

The obvious answer is you need both, BUT if I had to choose I'd say SEO (assuming it is ecommerce product).

Facebook doesn't pull sales like Google does because people are looking to buy on Google.

If you are just promoting something free (blog, etc), then probably social media marketing works better.

Will Google Results Be Better With Social Signals?

Opinions about what's best right now for SEO are like noses — everybody's got one. So here's another one (opinion that is).

Imagine the impossible: say you had links to your home page from the home pages of, say, Adobe, NBC, and Harvard University. I have a hunch your traffic to that page, plus your rankings for keywords on it, would go through the roof. My point? — LINKS are still very important. Not garbage links from worthless free directories and the like, but high-quality links from reputable websites.

Social Security, Healthcare Spending To Double Over The Next Decade: CBO

* Spending on Social Security, healthcare due to double in decade

* CBO warns of sharp rise in debt unless Congress acts

* Gradual changes would minimize economic impact

By David Morgan

WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) - U.S. spending on Social Security and healthcare will double to $3.2 trillion a year over the next decade, threatening a sharp rise in national debt unless Congress acts to avoid the danger, congressional researchers warned on Tuesday.

A report from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office did not put forth a plan to resolve the long-term imbalance between revenues and spending on retirement and healthcare benefits. But it said that action taken now would help minimize the economic impact of whatever course lawmakers can agree on.

"Unless the laws governing these programs are changed - or the increased spending is accompanied by corresponding reductions in other spending, sufficiently higher tax revenues, or a combination of the two - debt will rise sharply relative to (the U.S. economy) after 2023," the CBO warned.

The report, CBO's latest on the U.S. budget and economic outlook, comes as President Barack Obama and Congress prepare for a showdown over the federal deficit in coming months.

"Deciding now what policy changes to make to resolve that long-term imbalance would allow for gradual implementation, which would give households, businesses and state and local governments time to plan and adjust their behavior," CBO said.

The agency estimated last June that Social Security and federal health programs would account for more than one-quarter of U.S. gross domestic product by 2037 unless laws were changed.

Federal spending for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid stood at $1.6 trillion in 2012, with healthcare spending alone at $885 billion.

CBO predicts that annual outlays for those programs alone will top $3 trillion by 2023, with Obama's healthcare reform law adding another $134 billion in costs to provide coverage for 26 million people through new state-based healthcare exchanges.

Expanded health coverage under the reform law would cost $1.3 trillion over the next 10 years, slightly higher than its forecast in August, and reach 38 million people in 2022 through the exchanges and an expansion of the Medicaid program for the poor beginning Jan. 1, 2014, the CBO said.

Meanwhile, 7 million fewer people were forecast to have employer-sponsored health insurance in 2022 due to Obama's Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The estimate is up from August, when CBO predicted a drop of 4 million people with employer plans.

The agency said the change was due largely to the lower marginal tax rates Congress passed on Jan. 1, which would reduce tax benefits associated with insurance provided by employers.

Medicare, the federal healthcare program for 50 million elderly and disabled Americans, is expected to remain at around 3 percent of GDP until 2019 before climbing to 3.5 percent of the economy by 2023, for a total of $1.1 trillion in spending.

Medicaid is forecast to grow to 2.2 percent of GDP by 2023 when it is projected to total $572 billion in federal spending and 84 million beneficiaries.

Social Security outlays, estimated to account for almost one quarter of the government's spending next year, are projected to remain near 5 percent of GDP in most years through 2018 and then climb to reach 5.5 percent of GDP in 2023.

Despite forecasts for rising spending for Medicare and Medicaid, both are expected to grow more slowly per capita over the coming decade than they were just six months ago.

The change was due partly to expectations for lower enrollment and a larger number of young, healthier beneficiaries in the Medicaid coverage pool.

It also reflected a slowdown in spending growth for Medicare's Part A hospital, Part B physician and Part D prescription drug benefits, as younger retirees from the baby boom generation have entered the pool of beneficiaries.

How To Buffer Your Way To Social Media Success

Buffer is one of my favorite “go-to” services when it comes to social media management. In this post, we’ll explore the advantages of using Buffer and the BufferApp and how you can get the most value out of the currently available set of features.Buffer Logo

But before we dive in, let’s talk about why there’s a need for a social media management tool in the first place, or more importantly, why YOU need one.

Social media is clearly unavoidable for anyone conducting business on the internet today. The problem most people face, is that there are so many social networks out there, it’s difficult to decide which ones we should invest our time on. We need to make efficient use of our time and find out where we can get the most bang for our buck so to speak.

That’s where a service like Buffer is worth it’s weight in gold, because you can connect more than one social network and keep track of who, what, when and where people are engaging with your content. The analytics features in Buffer give you a quick overview of account activity.

Staggering your Tweets and posts to Facebook and LinkedIn are critical to staying “top of mind” with your potential readers and customers. No one wants to see a constant stream of information from any one user, and staggering your posts keeps you from being ignored. Share a blend of your own content along with content you curate using a service like Scoop.it to keep your followers engaged and you’ll be seen as the thought leader and “taste maker” in your field.

Take a look at this screenshot which shows the analytics from a Facebook Post I did on my Page. This post encouraged people to vote for the blog in the Small Business Influencer Awards last year.

Buffer Analytics

As it turned out, Basic Blog Tips was named a Community Choice Award Honoree and came in #2 in the total number of votes for that category. One of the reasons is because of the support I received from fans of the Facebook Page and the stats in Buffer helped demonstrate how important it is for me to engage on Facebook – even on those days when I might have my doubts.

It’s important to note that if I went into my Facebook Page Insights, this information would be gone because more than 90 days has past. Yet, it was quick and easy for me to scroll through my analytics and find this on Buffer, over six months after I made the post!

Buffer is constantly evolving and getting new features added but here’s what you can do with Buffer in it’s current state.

Schedule your Social Media posts to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and App.net in advanceGet analytics and rate the performance of individual posts Manage multiple accounts for yourself and your clientsManage multiple Social Media networksIncrease the amount of space or shares allowed in your Buffer account

Leo Widrich and Joel Gascoigne founded the platform back in 2010 (you can see one of Leo’s first guest posts about Buffer here) and they haven’t stopped building and innovation since. They even took the reigns as the owners of the Digg Digg social sharing plugin last year and continue to rise to the forefront when it comes to young entrepreneurs and successful start-ups. They have built an awesome and very knowledgeable support staff at Buffer, and if you’re really serious about taking your social media engagement to the next level, Buffer needs to be integrated into your strategy.

If you are taking on social media tasks for your clients, I strongly advise you to consider using The Awesome Plan for working with teams and accessing an unlimited number of posts.

Have you tried it yet? If so what do you think about Buffer?
