Joomla or Wordpress which is best for e-commerce site.
There is no definite answer. But in order to be able to answer, you would need to supply the following information:1) What are you mainly going to sell
2) How many products are you going to sell
3) Is your web experience rather high or low
4) Do you need multi currency support
5) Do you need multi language supportMagento can easily do them all, but has quite steep learning curve, also in the wrong hands Magento can get extremely slow.
PrestaShop is fast and easy, but inside is French. Some of the modules are bit harder to make for the system because of that. Otherwise it also supports everything above.Joomla + VirtueMart I do not recommend for the moment, since they are quite buggy. Maybe in a few months time it will improve. From the current view I see that PrestaShop has taken away quite a lot of popularity from Joomla VirtueMart
Wordpress + e-Commerce (getshopped.org) - is easy to set up. Main difference between Magento/PrestaShop/VirtueMart is that you can put your products literally anywhere on your site (post, page, widget, etc...) thru use of shortcodes. Downside is the lack of multi currency support and extra plugins are required in order to get the multi currency support working properly.
And again... before asking which e-commerce software is the best.... please supply what you want to do with your potential future webshop.

Oracle or microsoft: which database is better?
Oracle wasn't sold. They acquired SUN which should significantly bolster the potential advancements in the products and platform they offer. It still leaves a bit of a gray area for the future of MySQL but all is well for the time being. As to answer the question above, it may just come down to money. It's generally accepted that businesses migrate to MSSQL or Oracle once they outgrow the cheaper or free solutions available. MySQL can scale very well, but comes up far short on many of the more advanced tasks that MSSQL and Oracle support. On a straight feature level comparison, Oracle is unbeatable. Luckily, 99% of us will never need to use those very advanced features. MSSQL is a great database that supports replication very well, and can scale very large. The downside of both Oracle and MSSQL is the cost. You easily get into the $200,000+ costs just for initial licensing when you need to scale to enterprise levels. MSSQL is about 1/2 the cost of Oracle once you reach a certain point, but is still in the tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars for licensing.
I always recommend using MySQL or PostGre and push it to the limits. Realistically, they can both scale to the needs of 95% of businesses out there. For MySQL, especially when using the Percona, or Google distributions and patches. You may need to drop $50,000 in hardware, but you would be spending the same amount regardless of the database software if you need to get to that level. If it isn't justified, there's no reason to spend a quarter million on software when there's something free that may be able to do the same thing.

Which web hosts to AVOID?
This input is useful. As stated in the above, knowing which ones to avoid has more credibility than review sites- random people pushing their own affiliate-tagged hosts, or them selling the listings, or the owners themselves. Review sites are mostly crap and rigged.I have a 1and1 account and I agree, it sucks. Mainly because they don't use cpanel and they don't let me add any domains to it, unless I completely transfer the domain registration to them, then pay them $. So, I hate it. And they don't allow crons either. Basically not worth messing with them.
Here's my list to avoid, from my direct experience in the last 15 years of using numerous hosts:
AVOID:
1and1
dreamhost
infinology
ipowerweb - major billing hassles
GreenGeeks - untrustworthy practices
webhostingpad - slow server, bad support
hostnine - bad support
3ix - cheapest, but only use them if you want viruses and want to be hacked all the time. Plus they sometimes shut down your server for random reasons and forget to restart it.
LiquidWeb - they scammed me out of about $10,000 over a 5 year period, by saying I was buying a 'managed server'. I paid $200/mo for a pentium 4 box with a corrupted backup drive, which never changed and after 5 years of paying ($200/mo = $2,400/yr *5 years = $12,000), I learned the server wasn't managed at all! They said it was software 'managed' because of a stupid monitoring web app they made, but it was very different than a real human being managing and installing updates, fixing errors, maintaining, etc., which is what I was led to believe they were doing the whole time (but they weren't). So, the service they provided for about $10,000 should have costed about $300 or less- similar to a cheap shared hosting account. My $2/mo shared host was actually faster than this server. Also beware of 'free domain for life' scams.

Which web hosting should I use?
40$-60$ for shared hosting is a lot! You can get a VPS or even dedicated server for it.Do you know what you need, regarding technical aspects (like how much disk space, traffic, etc.)?

Which Keywords are Best for a TRAVEL BLOG?
Hi,I decided to launch a travel site, which has the format of a travel blog, but it will be a real site, not a blog - meaning that I'll be doing all the coding and content writing and it will have more features than a blog etc.
But I'm not sure whether I've chosen my keywords well...
How do people find GENERAL TRAVEL BLOGS or in my case: a general travel site?
So far I only managed niche sites, this is way too broad... It will contain destination guides, photos, maybe even reviews and polls. I will have keywords for those. But for main page - primary keywords I guess it will be "travel", "travel blog", "travel stories", "travel guides"... any more ideas on which keywords kick-in well for general travel sites/blogs?

Flash Game and Text on a Page - Which To Prioritize at the Top?
Hello,So I've been starting up a new website that has Flash Games with a 400-500 Word Review of each game.
There are separate pages for each game, each page has the Flash Game Embedded and the Review Text for that specific game.
It's got me thinking, for SEO reasons, does it matter which I put first on the page, the text review or the game itself? Here's my options and reasons -
Text at The Top / Flash Game at The Bottom - Good for Search Engines to read the article straight away so they know what the page is about and can use the keywords etc in the search rankings. But may put off users who only want to play the game and not scroll through the article.
orGame at The Top / Text at The Bottom - Users who want to play the game get to it straight away so higher play rate. But when the page gets crawled the search engine has to get through the Flash Player coding first.
or
50% Text at Top, Flash Game in Middle, Then Remaining 50% Text at Bottom -
Again, this may confuse users who just want to play the game, and it may annoy them that there is text above and below the game. But then the Search Engines has text all around the Flash Game coding.Anyone have any thought's on this and what would you suggest?
Andy.

which should i start( php OR asp.net)?
.NET is more object-oriented than PHP (so, in programming paradigm .NET is better), but if you are going to spread your web-application on your own web-farms you have to buy licenses for all machines with Windows Server. Nevertheless, with clouds coming up, these problem partially will be solved.I agree.PHP was more popular because every webhoster supported php (IMO the main reason is/was => it's free)
c# is OOP
php CAN but isn't required to be OOP, so it's IMO easier to learn it.I learned c#, visual basic in the school and in my job, but i prefered php because forums became my hobby and i had to learn it.
Now i'm sticking with php because i'm much more familiar with it.
Sometimes i miss the good old days, because the .net framework has provide many great things (e.g. classes) which aren't available in php. You need to code it yourself or choose one of the many available frameworks.

Office 2013 or Office 365 – Which Edition Should You Buy?

Before we delve deeper into the topic, please note that the new Microsoft Office editions are only available for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X machines. Also, there isn’t an upgrade path available so even if your computer is running Microsoft Office 2010, you’ll still have to buy the full license.
Microsoft Office 2013, like the previous versions, is a bundle of core Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. A single license would allow you to install the Office suite on just one Windows PC.
Microsoft Office 365 is a suite of the same Office programs but here you have an option to install Office on up to five different Windows PCs or Macs. There are not product keys to enter as everything is tied to your Microsoft account. You also get 20 GB of extra storage space on SkyDrive with Office 365.
Another advantage with Office 365 is that you can stream the full version of Microsoft Office on any Windows PC on demand.
This is useful in situations when you are working on someone else’s computer that doesn’t have a copy of Microsoft Office – go to office.com, sign-in with your Microsoft account and within minutes you’ll get the full version of Office on that computer. The Office software is “streamed” and isn’t permanently installed on that computer (just like web apps).

The Microsoft Office 2013 license is valid forever and you can use it for the life of your PC. However, in the case of Office 365, you don’t get a perpetual license but are required to pay an annual subscription (it’s like renting the Office suite).
The Office 365 Home Premium edition is $99.99 (12-month subscription) while the Microsoft Office 2013 Home & Student Edition is $139.99 (single PC).
Thus, deciding between the two Office editions should be easy. If you have multiple computers at home or need access to the entire suite of Office products (including Outlook, Publisher and Access), go with Office 365 else the Office 2013 Home edition could prove to be a more economic option in the longer run.

There are a lot of things wedding guests have every right to expect from the couple hosting the reception. That they'll be fed enough to not leave mid-wedding in a hunger-fueled frenzy to hit up a Burger King. That the conditions will be comfortable, as in an A/C is on if it's 85 degrees out, the heat's on if it's 45, and if it's outdoors, the venue isn't infested with mosquitoes. That every effort will be made to show them a good time -- so there's music for listening and, with any luck, for dancing too. But there's at least one expectation that I don't have.

I would never hold it against a couple for not sending me a thank-you card.
Newlyweds are often at major crossroads in their lives. When Paul and I got married, I was switching jobs -- which wasn't unusual for me back then, but I literally had my last day at one place, had my rehearsal dinner the next day, got married, went on our honeymoon, and started a new job the day after coming back. On top of that, we were trying to buy our first home. We were going into contract on an apartment when we left for our vacation. Reality quickly set in upon our return when a voicemail from our lawyer informed us the seller had backed out. It wouldn't have been so bad if we weren't also getting kicked out of the apartment we were renting so our landlords could "move in their daughter."
Some of my friends got married and immediately relocated -- one had never before visited her new town. Others had just lost jobs or were coming out of grad school and on the hunt for employment. So yeah, it's a tumultuous time. I couldn't take it personally if someone prioritizes getting her life in order over mailing me a greeting card.
Besides all this, brides and grooms are gracious at their weddings, thanking you -- in person -- for coming, serving you ample food and booze, and sending you home with a parting gift. That's enough thanks for me, even if their lives as they knew it weren't changing dramatically.

But still, I was downright embarrassed when our first anniversary had come and gone and we hadn't yet written all our thank-you cards. One of our outspoken pals, who gave a very generous gift, called us out on it.
"I thought a writer would want to write thank-you cards," he said.
In my defense, Paul and I had agreed to split up writing duty -- I'd take my side and he'd take his -- and this buddy was on his list. That didn't change the fact that I felt awful that a great friend had felt slighted.
"I'd do it for you right now, but I don't have any paper," I said.
He pushed a cocktail napkin in front of my seat at the bar. I whipped out a pen and got to writing what he deemed to be a heartfelt enough note to keep in his wallet wherever he went for a couple years.
The point is, if I asked for a thank-you note from a couple who didn't originally send me one, I know I'd get a message of genuine gratitude because they had already expressed it through the grand gesture of including me in their festivities. I don't need written proof.
Do you think thank-you cards are necessary? Do you get offended if you don't receive one?
