'Doctor Who' Special News: 'Sherlock' Scribe To Pen 'An Adventure In Space And Time'

If you've ever wondered about the origin story of "Doctor Who," wonder no longer.

BBC America announced Tuesday that it will co-produce "An Adventure in Space and Time," a scripted special that will tell the story of how the sci-fi series, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, came to exist.

Mark Gatiss, who has written episodes of both "Sherlock" and "Doctor Who," will write the special. "Harry Potter" actor David Bradley will portray the first Doctor, William Hartnell, and "Call the Midwife's" Jessica Raine will play producer Verity Lambert.

Brian Cox of the "Bourne" films will play the BBC's Head of Drama, Sydney Newman, who is credited with creating "Doctor Who" five decades ago. Steven Moffat -- head of all things "Doctor Who" at the moment and also a writer-producer on "Sherlock" -- will act as a producer on the "Doctor Who" special.

"Mark has written such a wonderful script not only about the birth of a cultural phenomenon, but a moment in television’s history," Bradley said in a statement from BBC America. "William Hartnell was one of the finest character actors of our time and as a fan I want to make sure that I do him justice. I’m so looking forward to getting started.”

No air date for the special has been set (the BBC's statement only said it will arrive "later this year"), but smart betting has "An Adventure" airing in the fall, around Nov. 23 or so. "Doctor Who" debuted on the BBC on that date in 1963.

The new season of "Doctor Who," starring Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, arrives March 30, the network recently announced.

There's still no hard information on something "Doctor Who" fans are clearly salivating for -- a special episode of the show that would reunite all the actors who have played the interstellar traveler (all those who are living, that is: Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant).

As we wait for that reunion special update, we'll wonder if Troy and Abed will be thrilled about today's news. Doesn't the "Doctor Who" program announced today sound a lot like "Inspector Spacetime," their favorite sci-fi show?

Don’t Miss This Special Twitter Event!

We all want to be better at blogging, that’s a given! Wouldn’t you love to go to those blogging seminars that you always see online? Getting to mingle and hear some famous bloggers talk about how they beat the odds and became successful, it’s a great way to understand how you can take your blog to the next level.

But sometimes you can’t always make it to those events! And even if you could, most of them charge an arm and a leg for admission, and it makes it tough on a newbie starting out because you may not have that much money to spend on an hour seminar!

When I was speaking in Ohio at one of the many blogging conventions this country has, I realized the price of admission to go to one of these things. To be honest, it’s kind of outrageous and sometimes hilarious at the price they charge just to get into one of these things.

While there, I really got to thinking about events that I could create that would be free to bloggers who were just getting started. The kind of event that you could attend in your own living room or office.

Naturally that event would have to be online, and that’s just the event I created!

Why People Go

You want to be included in events like this because usually there are some great professional ideas that come out of them. The kind of ideas that can really get your blog off the ground and start getting a name for yourself. That’s why people pay outrageous prices of admission…to be included in these ideas!

The event that I have created is called Social Media Marketing Strategies for 2013 and it’s going to include a lot of good things that you can use to bring your blog to the next level!

This event will be on Twitter and you can come! Look for the hashtag #BlogTips to see the discussion.

Who What When Where

The What When & Where

The event will be held on Twitter on January the 9th at 6pm EST and will last until 7pm. If it goes over, that’s fine too! I don’t want to hold these great bloggers to a time limit! One of the speakers, Marcus Sheridan recently did a post where he went over his allotted time while speaking at one of the many conferences he does, and I just don’t want to limit these people at all!

It will be focused on social media marketing strategies and how you can take your social media to the next level and get some visibility and traffic to your site! There are really so many points that you have to focus on in your social media strategy and the professionals can show you some great pointers!

The Who

No, it’s not the band, but almost as good! I really hit the ball out of the park with the guest Tweeters in this chat this time!

First up is one of the greatest content marketers in the business, Marcus Sheridan. He can show you how to distribute content through social media with a more positive effect for traffic. Plus a whole lot of other good stuff that even I don’t know about! You can follow Marcus for the event here.

Next, is a blogger we all know and love. Yep, you guessed it! Ms. Ileane! I love Ms Ileane because right from the very start of our relationship she has always been super helpful with just about everything! From YouTube to Scoop.it, Ms Ileane can be found on just about every social media platform available!

One thing that always stuck in my mind about Ms. Ileane was in an interview I did about her on my blog called An Intimate Interview with Ms Ileane where she told me that the key to successful social media strategy was building relationships and communities. I’m really excited to see what she will be giving us in this event, because you know it’s going to be good! Follow Ms. Ileane on Twitter!

Next up is Alison Irish, or Allie Rambles from Ramblings of A WAHM. Allie is a true “mom blogger” and she even gets up at 5:23am! Now that’s dedication! Her theories on social media marketing are astounding to get more visibility with your updates and bring more value to the reader. Follow me for this event on Twitter!

I really am looking forward to this event on Twitter. I have always wanted to bring value to the reader without them having to pay an arm and a leg for it! Please check out the event in more detail!

RSVP

You can RSVP for this event in two places: Google Plus and Facebook.

Also, add me on Google Plus to get in on some future events that I will be doing called “Google Plus ‘Hangout with Wade’” where I will hangout with one or two bloggers every week and talk about different things that can improve your blog! Who knows? I may ask you to hang out with me! (My wife is making fun of me right now…lol)

Anyway, I’m not a popular blogger, and don’t profess to be, but I want to help people learn how to get visibility and make money with their blog. I know this Twitter event is going to really help you in your social media strategies, and I hope to see you there!

'Downton Abbey' Spoilers: Creator Julian Fellowes On Dan Stevens' Exit In Christmas Special

Julian Fellowes Dan Stevens Downton Exit "Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes talks Dan Stevens' exit from the show.

SPOILER ALERT -- do not read on if you have yet to see the 2012 "Downton Abbey" Christmas special, which aired in the UK on December 25.

The halls of "Downton Abbey" will be a little emptier next season. Earlier this week, viewers were shocked when it was confirmed that Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley) would not be returning for Season 4 of the period drama, after his character definitively exited the series in this year's Christmas Special.

Now, "Downton" creator Julian Fellowes has weighed in on the actor's abrupt exit, telling British newspaper the Daily Telegraph, "We have always tried to persuade him to stay. He had done fantastically well for the series and his creation of Matthew was terrific. But this is life. Dan felt that this was right thing for him, and the right moment to move on to different areas."

Stevens' exit proved particularly controversial, considering that Matthew was killed in the Christmas episode, rather than the door being left open for a future return. According to the Telegraph, "Downton's" British broadcaster, ITV, has since been inundated with complaints that the storyline was "a 'travesty', a 'tragedy' and an 'outrage', with some saying the ending had 'ruined their Christmas'."

But Fellowes maintained that killing Matthew was really the only course that the show could take once Stevens decided to depart. “If he had been prepared to come back for maybe two or three episodes in a series, that would be different. Then we could have had a foreign posting or invented a career that would have made it possible for him to be away," the creator said. "Otherwise we would have had to make this tremendously successful love affair between Mary and Matthew unhappy, which I didn’t feel would be believable ... So we didn’t really have any option. By him dying, their love can remain in tact."

While Season 3 has yet to air on PBS in the US, rumors of Stevens' exit began circulating as early as March, when it was revealed that Stevens, Jessica Brown Findlay (Lady Sybil) and Siobhan Finneran (O’Brien) hadn't renewed their contracts past Season 3. The speculation began anew after the actor relocated to New York to star in "The Heiress" on Broadway. "New York for me is going to be one big adventure," Stevens said at the time. "I will be taking the whole family out and we will be there for six months. I don’t know if I will be returning to 'Downton.'"

After the episode aired, Stevens explained his decision to exit the show. “We were always optioned for three years,” he told the Telegraph. “And when that came up it was a very difficult decision. But it felt like a good time to take stock, to take a moment. From a personal point of view, I wanted a chance to do other things."

ITV then released a statement on Stevens' departure in an attempt to console the show's heartbroken audience: "After three successful series and two Christmas editions of 'Downton Abbey,' Dan Stevens decided not to renew his contract beyond the initial three years he had been contracted ... Over the last three years, audiences across the world have been captivated by the ups and downs of Mary and Matthew’s relationship, culminating in their wedding. Fans have enjoyed what has become a solid and loving marriage. It is for this reason that the Producers decided Matthew and Mary could not simply be estranged or parted, resulting in his untimely and tragic death at the end of the Christmas episode."

For more from Fellowes, head over to the Telegraph.

Season 3 of "Downton Abbey" premieres in the U.S. on Sun., Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. EST on PBS.
