'The Biggest Loser' Makeover Week: See The Contestants' New Looks As They Fight For Immunity (VIDEO)

Biggest Loser Makeovers 130304 'The Biggest Loser' Makeover Week: Danni Tears Up At Her Own Transformation

This was the week that everyone had been waiting for on "The Biggest Loser." It was time for makeovers! The kids even returned to campus for the exciting experience. But nobody's transformation was more emotional than Danni's. The 26-year old hadn't felt beautiful in so long that when she walked out in skinny jeans, she immediately got emotional.

Then in a dress it was tears again. "The way I feel walking out, I feel beautiful," she said. "I feel pretty, I’m wearing heels and a dress! It’s just the best feeling I’ve ever felt in my whole life, I think."

Zap2It was in tears as well, calling Danni's transformation a tearjerker. Gossip & Gab felt the emotion, too, referring to Danni as an inspiration. But it was all the contestants who got to take their new looks home and inspire their friends, families and communities to a workout.

The contestants were also fighting for immunity during their two-week stays at home. If they could lose 5% of their total bodyweight in those two weeks, they would have individual immunity. One by one they hit the scale, and one by one they got their immunity. Everyone was safe.

That means there are still five contestants going into next week's penultimate episode. Who will get eliminated next on "The Biggest Loser," Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.

Happy Memorial Day!

Whether you’re home all day enjoying the holiday with family and friends or your orchestra is putting on a performance today, try to take a few moments to remember the reason for the holiday. Furthermore, take a moment to remember that the single largest employer of full-time professional musicians is the United States Armed Forces…

The United States Air Force Band

The United States Army Band

“The Presidents Own” United States Marine Band

The United States Navy Band

The United States Coast Guard Band

"I hear that every time you show up to work with an orchestra, people get fired." Those were the first words out of an executive's mouth after her board chair introduced us. That executive is now a dear colleague and friend but the day that consulting contract began with her orchestra, she was convinced I was a hatchet-man brought in by the board to clean house. I understand where the trepidation comes from as a great deal of my consulting and technology provider work for arts organizations involves due diligence, separating fact from fiction, interpreting spin, as well as performance review and oversight. So yes, sometimes that work results in one or two individuals "aggressively embracing career change" but far more often than not, it reinforces and clarifies exactly what works and why. In short, it doesn't matter if you know where all the bodies are buried if you can't keep your own clients out of the ground, and I'm fortunate enough to say that for more than 15 years, I've done exactly that for groups of all budget size from Qatar to Kathmandu. For fun, I write a daily blog about the orchestra business, provide a platform for arts insiders to speak their mind, keep track of what people in this business get paid, help write a satirical cartoon about orchestra life, and love a good coffee drink.

A Case Study In The Value Of Responsive Design

In advance of the responsive orchestra website review later this week, it makes sense to provide a working example of not only what responsive design is, but why it is a necessary component for contemporary performing arts org web design.

In order to get a really good idea of just how effective responsive web design is at producing both desktop and mobile versions of a website via single source contact, take a look at a psychopath; or to be more accurate, the Lost Colony’s Psychopath: Haunted Island website.

In 2013, Venture Platform user The Lost Colony decided to launch a new fall attraction and needed a simple micro-site to help promote and brand their outdoor haunted trail, which features special effect lighting, animation, and live actors.

The end result was www.hauntedisland.org; the entire project cost less than $500 and took 13 days to produce an incredibly tap-friendly site that works equally well on Smartphones, tablets, laptop, and desktop browsers. Everything a site visitor needs to know about the attraction, right down to a button for ordering tickets, is on a single fast loading page.

When was the last time you heard about a project that took so little time, at that price point, and produced such a powerful user friendly end result that works across all platforms? That’s what responsive design is all about when implemented properly.

Here are some actual screencaps from this project on Smartphone, tablet, and desktop browsers.

mini-ipadsiPhonesDesktop and Laptop

If you don’t have a Smartphone or tablet handy, you can still get a good sense for how responsive design works by resizing your browser. Try this:

Open another browser in a separate window and/or screen and head over to http://hauntedisland.org/.Minimize your browser window.Drag the window so the browser width gets smaller or larger.Keep an eye on the page elements while you’re dragging, do you notice what happens to elements like the slider text, which moves below the slide image on narrow browser widths (i.e. Smartphone) then back to the image overlay position when the browser is wider (tablet and desktop widths)?Same thing is true for the purchase tickets button which is located to the right of the related text on wider browsers but moves below on narrow widths. And keep an eye on the line break points for all text based content.

Or just sit back, relax, and watch this screencast video.

Yes, it was fun to put an upbeat tune behind a demo featuring a scary, thriller style design.

In the end, this case study provides a better understanding of not only what responsive design is, but how it works and how you need to begin thinking about incorporating it into the very first steps of your design process.

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 1, Episode 8 of The CW's "The Carrie Diaries," titled "Hush Hush."

This week, Carrie Bradshaw and her friends discovered the sometimes awful drawbacks of keeping secrets -- especially when you're a teenager. "Secrets are like hand grenades," Carrie said during episode 8 of "The Carrie Diaries." "If you hang on to them for too long, they explode in your face." And explode they did.

In "Hush Hush," Carrie continued lying to her father about interning at his friend's law firm while she was secretly working as Larissa's intern at Interview magazine. During her first few days on the job, she was introduced to the man who would impact her life (and her bank account) forever: Manolo Blahnik.

Carrie modeled some shoes last minute and Larissa let her keep the colorful pair of Manolos, which led to a cute, but not fully developed, Cinderella theme throughout the episode. She made plans to go out with her Interview coworkers at Limelight, a church turned nightclub that is now a marketplace where Manhattan couples spend their Saturdays brunching and browsing.

The scheduling worked out perfectly, or so she thought. Carrie's father assumed she was spending the night at her senior year "Lock In," which seemed like a school-sponsored, grade-wide sleepover party at Castlebury High.

Meanwhile, Sebastian broke up with Donna LaDonna and revealed he still had feelings for Carrie (feelings that are reciprocated). Since Carrie and George broke up last episode, Mouse and Maggie urged Sebastian to make a grand gesture. This resulted in Sebastian and Mouse driving into New York City to find Carrie at Limelight so he could profess his love amongst drag queens and sequins.

As Carrie danced her way through Limelight, she tasted (more like gulped down) her first Cosmopolitan. "Oh, it's so pretty!" she gasped. "What's it called?!" The only issue with Carrie's grand plan was that her father also decided to use the night to let his hair down. He went on a double date with Harlan, whose piggish behavior is almost unwatchable, and two women. The group decided to follow steaks and caviar with a stop at Limelight.

Back in Connecticut, Donna, reeling from her breakup with Sebastian, decided to let Walt in on Maggie's little secret that is the most bizarre subplot of the entire show thus far: that she's been banging the local police officer in the backseat of his cop car. A devastated Walt confronted Maggie and decided to hook up with Donna later that night.

Meanwhile, at Limelight, a few drag queens picked Carrie up and placed her on a stage, only for her to see her father dancing (yikes) with a woman across the room. This entire reveal was done so well. I actually gasped on my couch when Carrie spotted her dad, and I cringed as he screamed at her in the club. The only part I didn't buy was that Larissa was just happy as ever to find out that Carrie was only 16. But Larissa, who usually rubs me the wrong way, was particularly entertaining during this scene. Carrie's dad took her home at once and banned her from going into Manhattan for what seemed like forever.

Sebastian and Mouse searched for Carrie at Limelight but arrived too late. And then Sebastian's car got towed.

"The Carrie Diaries" airs Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. on the CW.
