Scott Biumi, Georgia Police Officer, Allegedly Pulls Gun On Teen At McDonald's Over Slow Line

Lots of people get intense cravings for fast food, but one Georgia officer's alleged Big Mac attack might earn him some time behind bars -- and we don't mean these kind.

DeKalb County police Sgt. Scott Biumi is charged with felony aggravated assault after allegedly pulling a gun on a customer in the drive-thru line of an area McDonald's on April 9. Video of the incident -- captured by security cameras at the restaurant -- appears to show a man in a business suit draw a gun and point it at a driver at the head of the line.

The driver, 18-year-old Ryan Mash, told NBC affiliate WIZ-TV that he had no idea the man was a police officer. According to Mash, the man accused him of "holding up the line," then got out of his car and threatened him by sticking a gun to his neck.

"He's like, 'Well, you don't know who you're messing with ... there's some crazy people out there.' And that's when he pulled the gun on me, and kept on yelling at me for about thirty more seconds," Mash told the station.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the man identified as Biumi was driving a department-issued unmarked car and wearing a department gold star badge on his belt at the time of the incident.

"When he pulled his gun, his shirt moved up. I could see a badge," Drake Thomson, a witness, told CBS Atlanta.

Forsyth County police traced the tag numbers and vehicle description back to the DeKalb County Police Department, then to Biumi, who was identified by witnesses and arrested Wednesday.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper told the Forsyth News that the incident was "shocking" and "a severe break in judgment," since "the entire situation [apparently] evolved from [Biumi] being angry at the time it was taking for him to get his food.”

Biumi is a 20-year veteran of the DeKalb County Police Department. DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander told NBC Atlanta that Biumi has been placed under administrative leave with pay while the incident is investigated.

Biumi was released from jail on $22,000 bond on Apil 18. According to Cumming Patch, a court date has been set for May 23.

McDonald's Chicken McWrap To Be Added To Permanent Menu

NEW YORK — McDonald's is adding a permanent new offering to its menu: chicken McWraps.

The world's biggest hamburger chain says the new sandwich wrap will come in three varieties – Chicken & Bacon, Sweet Chili Chicken and Chicken & Ranch. The company already offers similar wraps in other parts of the world, including Europe.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based chain says the McWraps use the same type of flour tortillas and chicken as its snack wraps, which were introduced in 2006. But two of the new McWraps will come with cucumbers, which the company says will mark the first time the vegetable will be part of its core menu. The wraps range from 360 to 600 calories, depending on whether people pick grilled or deep-fried chicken.

McDonald's Corp. has been stepping up the pace of its new menu offerings as it struggles to grow sales in the challenging economy. Last year, the company ousted the head of its U.S. division after a monthly sales figure fell for the first time in nearly a decade.

By refreshing its menu, McDonald's is hoping to hold onto customers as it faces a shifting industry and intensifying competition from the likes of Burger King and Wendy's. Next week, for instance, The Wendy's Co. plans to roll out its "Flatbread Grilled Chicken Sandwiches" in two varieties; an Asiago Ranch flavor will have 530 calories and the Honey Mustard flavor will have 370 calories.

The latest offerings also reflect the changing tastes of diners, who are increasingly looking for more premium ingredients with a healthier image – even at fast-food chains. McDonald's, for example, is officially calling the new wraps "Premium McWraps." It also plans to offer a version of its Egg McMuffin made with egg whites starting April 22. And this week, Burger King Worldwide Inc. rolled out its first turkey burger following the success of turkey burgers at Carl's Jr. and Hardee's.

Dan Coudreaut, director of culinary innovation of McDonald's, says the wraps will be a new "platform" and that different varieties are already in the pipeline. These could include spicy or Cajun flavors, he said. In Europe, he noted, there is a shrimp McWrap.

"It's the benefit of McDonald's being a global system," he said, noting that the company can take successful items from around the world and adapt them to other markets. The Sweet Chili Chicken McWrap, for instance, was first offered in Australia.

Although the chicken McWraps officially launch nationwide next week, the company says many restaurants already have them. The suggested price for a wrap is $3.99.

National advertising is set to start April 1.

McDonald's Fish McBites Taste Test: Fast Food Skeptics Are Converted

If you've walked by a McDonald's recently, perhaps you've noticed a large banner promoting Fish McBites -- one of the newest additions to the menu. Or maybe you follow McDonald's on Twitter, and keep seeing tweets about the item. OK McDonald's, you got us. WE'LL TRY YOUR FISH.

And you know what -- we're glad we did. These delightful little poppers are one of the best items we've ever had from McDonald's, and that comes from several HuffPost tasters who make it a point to avoid the chain. The fish is nice and flaky. It avoids heading into gross mushy fish territory. And the batter is great -- good crunch, slightly peppery and not overly bread-y.

One of the reasons that Fish McBites have been a topic of discussion is due to the news that the fish used -- Alaskan pollock -- is sourced from sustainable fisheries. While that announcement has been met with some controversy, it's still a generally positive move on McDonald's part.

For those who avoid meat but eat seafood, McDonald's now has a pretty great new snack on its hands. While this certainly isn't health food -- the fish has a coating of batter after all -- it does offer an alternative to chicken, and one that we think actually tastes better than McNuggets. The Fish McBites have more contrast between the crispy shell and the soft interior. Even if you are a McDonald's hater, there's always that day when you find yourself on a road trip, starving, and there is simply nowhere else to eat. Steer toward Fish McBites, and you may not be disappointed.
