Scott Biumi, Georgia Police Officer, Allegedly Pulls Gun On Teen At McDonald's Over Slow Line

Lots of people get intense cravings for fast food, but one Georgia officer's alleged Big Mac attack might earn him some time behind bars -- and we don't mean these kind.

DeKalb County police Sgt. Scott Biumi is charged with felony aggravated assault after allegedly pulling a gun on a customer in the drive-thru line of an area McDonald's on April 9. Video of the incident -- captured by security cameras at the restaurant -- appears to show a man in a business suit draw a gun and point it at a driver at the head of the line.

The driver, 18-year-old Ryan Mash, told NBC affiliate WIZ-TV that he had no idea the man was a police officer. According to Mash, the man accused him of "holding up the line," then got out of his car and threatened him by sticking a gun to his neck.

"He's like, 'Well, you don't know who you're messing with ... there's some crazy people out there.' And that's when he pulled the gun on me, and kept on yelling at me for about thirty more seconds," Mash told the station.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the man identified as Biumi was driving a department-issued unmarked car and wearing a department gold star badge on his belt at the time of the incident.

"When he pulled his gun, his shirt moved up. I could see a badge," Drake Thomson, a witness, told CBS Atlanta.

Forsyth County police traced the tag numbers and vehicle description back to the DeKalb County Police Department, then to Biumi, who was identified by witnesses and arrested Wednesday.

Forsyth County Sheriff Duane K. Piper told the Forsyth News that the incident was "shocking" and "a severe break in judgment," since "the entire situation [apparently] evolved from [Biumi] being angry at the time it was taking for him to get his food.”

Biumi is a 20-year veteran of the DeKalb County Police Department. DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander told NBC Atlanta that Biumi has been placed under administrative leave with pay while the incident is investigated.

Biumi was released from jail on $22,000 bond on Apil 18. According to Cumming Patch, a court date has been set for May 23.

Georgia Students Struggle On Test Tied To Common Core Math Course | Www.ajc.com

Judging from students' initial experience in a new math course, Georgia's move to a common core of academic standards shared by 44 other states won't be painless.
Just under 59 percent did not meet the standard set for an end-of-course test after they took a new algebra course tied to the common core.
The test was the first student performance measure since the state moved to common-core curriculum, and the low marks dredged up memories of the fight over "integrated math," which combined a trio of math concepts in a single course that came to be reviled by many. After a public outcry, districts were given the option of dropping the course.

Georgia Outscores Nebraska In Capital One Bowl: Aaron Murray's 5 TDs Lift Bulldogs (VIDEO)

Georgia Bulldogs Georgia head coach Mark Richt, center, is doused by his players including free safety Marc Deas (23) during the final seconds of the Capital One Bowl NCAA football game against Nebraska, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Orlando, Fla.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Aaron Murray threw five touchdown passes to set a Georgia bowl record, including two in the fourth quarter, as the sixth-ranked Bulldogs beat No. 23 Nebraska 45-31 in the Capital One Bowl on Tuesday.

Murray shook off a pair of first-half interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and passed for 427 yards – also a Bulldogs' bowl record – against the nation's top-ranked passing defense. He was named the game's most valuable player.

Georgia (12-2) reached 12 wins for the third time in school history.

Nebraska (10-4) lost its third consecutive bowl game, and finished the season with two straight woeful defensive performances. The Cornhuskers lost the Big Ten championship game 70-31.

The Cornhuskers led 24-23 at the half, but committed two of their three turnovers in the final 30 minutes.

Taylor Martinez had two interceptions and two touchdown passes for Nebraska and Rex Burkhead rushed 140 yards in his final college game.

Nebraska's offense finished with 443 total yards, but the Bulldogs defense was stingy when it needed to be.

They sacked Martinez five times, with All-American linebacker Jarvis Jones notching two. Damian Swann had both Georgia interceptions.

Murray found Keith Marshall free near the sideline for a 24-yard touchdown pass that gave Georgia a 38-31 lead with 14:52 to play in the game.

Following a Nebraska punt, Murray then hit Chris Conley for a short pass in space over the middle. Conley outran the Cornhuskers defenders for an 87-yard score.

That play came after a 49-yard touchdown catch by Conley that helped Georgia tie the game in the third quarter.

Nebraska clung to a 24-23 lead the half, taking back the advantage late in the second quarter via a 16-yard strike from Martinez to Burkhead.

After a pair of early turnovers, Murray seemed to be getting Georgia's offense back on track, as the Bulldogs punctuated a four-play, 38-yard drive with a 24-yard touchdown run by Todd Gurley to make it 23-17.

Both Bulldogs' turnovers came via Murray interceptions as the nation's top ranked passing defense crowded Georgia's receivers and disguised their coverage schemes.

Gurley helped open things up, though, rushing for 81 yards in the opening 30 minutes.

Nebraska also allowed Georgia's defense three sacks, which thwarted some promising Cornhuskers drives.

Nebraska's defense didn't need long to force the game's first turnover, picking off a Murray pass on Georgia's opening drive of the game.

The Cornhuskers went three-and-out on their first offensive touch, and were forced to punt.

But that attempt by punter Brett Maher was blocked by the Bulldogs' Shawn Williams. There was a scramble for the ball in the end zone, but it trickled out of the back for a safety.

The Bulldogs then went up 9-0 their ensuing possession following the free kick, capping an 80-yard drive with a 29-yard touchdown pass by Murray to Arthur Lynch.

Nebraska's offense finally got going on its next touch, responding with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Martinez to Jamal Turner.

The Cornhuskers' defense then made with 14-9 when Will Compton came up with their second interception in the half on Murray and returned it 24 yards for the score.

Murray set a new Georgia record for passing yards in a season and touchdown passes with 35. Jones set a school single-season record for sacks in a season at 14.5. The previous record of 14 was held by David Pollack.

Nebraska dropped to 12-7 against SEC opponents in bowl games.

Ben And Henry Cleary FOUND: Missing Georgia Boys Located In Texas, Father George Arrested

ATLANTA -- Police said two young boys from Georgia who were reported missing this week were found safe in Texas on Saturday and their father is in custody and facing charges.

Brothers Ben and Henry Cleary – ages 9 and 7 – were visiting with their father, Daniel Cleary, of Roswell, and were supposed to return home Wednesday. An Amber Alert was issued Thursday.

Roswell Police Lt. James H. McGee said that the 46-year-old Daniel Cleary was taken into custody Saturday evening in Austin, Texas.

"We have recovered the kids," McGee told The Associated Press. "They were with him and they were OK."

Austin police said a citizen had recognized the boys from the alert and notified police at 5:11 p.m. CDT that they were at a hotel.

Officers "observed the suspect and the two boys, and recovered the two boys and took the suspect into custody," Austin police Lt. James Nisula.

The children's mother, Theresa Nash, spoke to the boys by phone and was on the way to get them.

She told FOX 5 Atlanta they were "battling each other on their IPads and planning Henry's birthday party."

Nash had told WGCL-TV in Atlanta she was concerned because Daniel Cleary had purchased a firearm about a month ago, was under stress and drinking.

Police said they did not know if Daniel Cleary was in possession of a firearm when he was taken into custody.

McGee said authorities will arrange for Daniel Cleary's extradition to Georgia. He faces a charge of interstate interference with custody, a felony. McGee said police will discuss with prosecutors whether other charges will be brought.

Police on Friday had released surveillance footage showing the two missing boys at a Walmart in Tennessee on Dec. 23 and 24 with their father. Though initial reports were that the Walmart was in Jackson, McGee said it was in fact in Chattanooga.
