5 Proven Techniques to Drive Quality Traffic to Your Blog

For a blogger, one of the toughest tasks is to drive quality traffic to your blog and build an engaged audience.

I know this since I have been through this myself.

Many beginners and newbies find it difficult to get people to read their content and eventually they get frustrated and end up quitting.

With this in mind, I am going to give you a list of five proven techniques to help every blogger, whether a newbie or an established one to drive quality targeted traffic to your blogs. Let’s get started.

Quality Traffic for your Blog

Guest Posting :- You know what I am here for. I want to know more and more people within my niche and want them to know me. I want to increase my network of readers. So here I am guest posting on one of the best blogs of my niche. You need to do the same. Guest posting will help you increase your reader’s base and will help you to get some high quality backlinks and it’s one of the best ways to promote your blog for free. Just be sure to write your best content when you are posting on someone else’s blog.Blog Commenting :- This is another excellent way to bring in quality traffic to your blog. Find some good blogs or websites related to your niche and start interacting with people who comment on those blogs putting your views and thoughts in front of them. Not only traffic, blog commenting can be a useful source of backlinks. Try using CommentLuv Premium as it will take your blog comments and community to a new level.YouTube Traffic :- If you love videos, then this can be the biggest source of highly converting traffic for your site. Many smart bloggers are extracting a high amount of lead conversions and quality traffic which YouTube receives to increase their blog’s readership. Create some videos related to your niche and leave a link back to your blog in the description. The amount of traffic you receive will depend highly upon the quality of the video and the information you provide in it.PPC Advertising :- If you have some bucks in your pockets to spend, then you can get traffic to your website via PPC campaigns from Google Adwords. It is some of the highest quality targeting traffic you will ever receive. But the fact is that you need to be extremely careful while creating your campaigns or you will end up losing money without any profits.Subscribers and Email Marketing :- Trust me, the best lot of visitors you can have are those who subscribe to your blog, since they are the ones who want to read your content. They subscribed because they liked your content and want to read more from you. So it is always a must to give readers the option to subscribe.  If you can offer email subscriptions of your blog using AWeber or any other service, then you can see a stream of high quality traffic coming to your blog within no time.

In addition to these tips, you need to promote your blog on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ as these too can bring in a lot of traffic to your blog. Try other arenas to get more exposure and find new readers from sites like SlideShare or perhaps you can even start a podcast.

Being active on these sites will make these sites a constant and ever increasing source of traffic to your blog.

Getting traffic to your blog is not the last thing. You should constantly keep working to increase the current levels of your site’s traffic. If you stop updating your blog or publish poor or copied content, the traffic to your blog will drop eventually and all the efforts you made to build traffic will go in vain. Love your readers by providing good content, and they will love you in return.

What are your tips for getting quality traffic on your blog?

Pick ONE Tip to Drive Traffic to a Brand New Blog

I bet you think it’s easy to pick just ONE tip to drive traffic to a new blog! Turns out that it might not be so easy to do.

I asked the question in my Facebook group the other day and I got over 40 responses (so far).one tip to drive traffic to your new blog

Many of the tips are excellent and I can’t even pick one single tip to drive traffic that I would call the best. I think it is hard to find one piece of advice that offers the perfect solution but let’s try to narrow it down.

You might be wondering why I asked for only ONE tip.

Well think back to when you first started blogging. Don’t you wish someone would give you just ONE tip?

You weren’t looking for an entire blogging blue print or a 10 point check list or even a full blown Content Marketing Strategy.

Back then you’d be more that happy to simply drive traffic to your website and see at least 50 – 100 visitors on your site in one day! You didn’t know where to start and you had so many tasks you quickly began to realize that you needed to establish a set of priorities for your brand new blog.

Most likely you probably hopped around to a bunch of different forums, downloaded a ton of ebooks and spent hours watching YouTube videos searching for the perfect solution.

Pulling your hair out getting traffic for your new blogYou ended up stuck with heaps of advice and by the end of the day you were pulling your hair out or banging your head against the wall or both!

I’m not going to put my neck on the line here because I don’t want you to chop it off. That’s why I asked the group!  Btw – you can request to join the Facebook Group, but I will let you know right up front you can’t post any self-promotional links there.

I can’t mention everyone by name but here is the link so you can see the entire thread: One Tip to Drive Traffic To Your Brand New Blog

Build RelationshipsUse Social MediaBe HumblePost often and regularlyFind your target audienceCreate Awesome ContentPick Evergreen TopicsGuest PostHire Top WritersWhen I was writing this post I began to feel more and more passionate about the topic. So I decided to record an audio version for my podcast. You can click the play button below to listen in.

I love all these tips and I wish there has to be a way to combine them into one. I tried but it’s not possible. But what I will do is tell you what I did back in 2009. Keep in mind I had no idea what I was doing and this was not really any type of strategy. I thank my lucky stars that it worked out for me in the long run.

I commented on other blogs.

Yup, that’s all I did. Of course I actually read each and every blog post before I left a comment. I was like a sponge and I tried to absorb every drop of information I could get my hands on. Keep in mind, by nature I have a need to speak my mind so there was no way I was going to read an entire blog post and not leave a comment. DUH!

There is one other thing that I did (I know I said only one tip but actually I’m up to three already) I found a mentor. That is HUGE! You need a mentor (or two) so that you don’t get distracted by all the shiny objects along the way. And there will be a LOT of shiny objects! And no, I’m not talking about Empower Network either. When I say find a mentor I mean one person who is an independent agent and gives information away for FREE. Here’s why it’s so important to have a mentor.

You’re new.

You just got here.

You have no idea what you need to invest your money in yet. You need guidance so that you will know an internet snake coming from a mile away before you even begin to sign up for an ecourse or join a membership site. When I talk about mentor, two really solid, down-to-Earth people that come to mind right away are Lisa Irby and Pat Flynn.

Let’s go back in time to when I was leaving a bunch of comments all over the place. That’s when I met great bloggers like Hesham Zebida from Famous Bloggers. Eventually I learned about Blog Engage and I was off and running after that. When you think about it I was addressing many of the points from my One Tip To Drive Traffic Responses. Remember I said I was reading every post I left a comment on. Based on the comments I left, don’t you think those bloggers KNEW that I was actually reading their posts? (Funny how that works, isn’t it). This is how I started building relationships with other bloggers!

Commenting on blogs is actually social media at it’s finest.

I know most people don’t look at that way but think about it for a sec. Blogging is social media but if you don’t leave a comment, nobody knows you were there right?

Who knew I was also link building! I didn’t, that’s for sure. In fact I didn’t even know there was such as thing as “link building” back in those days. I found out years later when I took a look at my link profile after I downloaded it from Market Samurai. I was shocked to discover that I had comment links from Mashable! To be more blunt I was stunned because I NEVER read Mashable now. (How quickly we forget). Not only was I reading Mashable regularly, it’s hard for me to imagine that I actually left comments there too. That is absolutely hilarious to me now.

I’m pretty sure this was around the time when I started having a love affair with CommentLuv.  (Don’t be alarmed, I’m The Official CommentLuv Ambassador now so it’s perfectly acceptable, not to mention downright legal, for me to be in love with a WordPress plugin.)

Ok that was a fun trip down memory lane but enough about me and my journey. I really want this to be about you. I want you to see that you when you’re starting your first blog you need to prioritize and do when comes naturally. Heck you gotta figure out if you’re really cut out for all this hard work.

I mean blogging is no joke! Once you make the commitment then you can begin the process of layering.

Read, comment, write, absorb, connect, share, learn, teach, grow!

These are the layers that put down to build a strong foundation for your blog. This is how you drive traffic, make friends (you’re gonna need them) and write THEE best content ever!

A Podcast Directory Integrated with Dropbox and Google Drive

With Podcast Gallery, you can watch or listen to your favorite podcasts online in the browser itself. You can also send podcast episodes to your Dropbox or Google Drive accounts via the cloud itself.

Podcast Gallery

My latest project, Podcast Gallery is now live. It is an online directory of audio and video podcasts that you can watch /listen in the browser without requiring any software or apps.

Please watch this YouTube video for a quick introduction.

The show pages are integrated with Dropbox and Google Drive and thus you can send your favorite podcast episodes to your online drive directly via the cloud. For instance, if you are on a desktop, you can start a download request and the podcast will instantly become available on your mobile phone (or vice-versa).

The other feature of Podcast Gallery is Collections. You can sign-in with your Facebook or Twitter accounts and add your favorite podcast shows to a collection. These collections have a unique web URL that you can share with friends (see my favorite podcasts) or you can download the list as an OPML file. This will help you importing your favorite podcasts into any RSS Reader or another podcasting app.

Podcast Gallery uses the HTML5 media player and hence the audio /video files would play inline without requiring Flash or other plugins.

You can follow the gallery on Twitter, Facebook or through RSS Feeds.

Internally, the site is built on top of WordPress and the podcast data is sourced from iTunes API and the Google Feeds API. The integration with Dropbox and Google Drive is done with the help of filepicker.io while the media players are powered by the MediaElement.js library. The icon fonts are courtesy the Entypo and Font Awesome libraries.

IDE Drive not detected

Hey UnHide,

Be sure you don't format the drives in Disk Management or make any changes other than possibly assigning a drive letter .

Win 8 has on occasions had problems with certain types of drives and\or partitions. The problem is most likely with Win 8, not the drives.

If you can't get them to work internally, possibly you could try a external USB type adapter.

Also, have you tried updating the drivers for the IDE Controller ?

Set Auto-Expiry Dates for Shared Folders in Google Drive

You can set an expiry date for your shared folders in Google Drive and the shared links will automatically get disabled at the specified date and time.

When you share a folder or a file in Google Drive with anyone, the shared links will stay active forever until you manually change the access permissions. There isn’t a way to set an expiration date for your shared files or folders that will make these links unavailable after a certain date and time.

You can however add an auto-expire feature to any of your shared folders in Google Drive with the help of a simple Google Script.

Google Drive Shared Folders

You create a folder in Google Drive and share it with Public or a small group. You then specify a date/time when you want that shared link to expire. The script, at the specified time, will create a copy of your shared folder and delete the original one. Thus the shared links would no longer work though the folder and files will stay in your Google Drive.

Let’s get this to work now.

Open the Google Script and then choose File -> Make a Copy to copy this script into your Google Drive.Add the URL of your shared Google Drive folder and the expiration date in the script (use the YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM format).Go to Run -> Initialize and grant the necessary permissions.Go to Run -> Start and it will create a trigger that will auto-expire the shared links at the specified time.

That’s it. You can exit the Google Script page and it will send you an email notification when the shared links are disabled.

The Google script can be used for setting expiry dates against shared folders only but not for individual files due to certain limitations in Google Apps Script. Thus, in case you wish to auto-expire an individual file, just put in a new folder and share that entire folder.

Save Web Pages to your Google Drive

You can save web pages, images, PDFs, and other web content to your Google Drive with a simple click.

The Google Docs team has released a new Chrome add-on that will help you save full web pages to your Google Drive with a click.

You can choose to save web pages as HTML files, as Google Documents or as .mht files where the entire page (including the CSS and JavaScript) is packed into a single web archive file that can later be viewed inside Internet Explorer (and also Firefox).

Save to Google Drive

This isn’t just limited to saving web page but works with other types of web content too.

For instance, you can right-click any image on a web page and save it to your online Google Drive account. The add-on can be configured to save a static screenshot image (PNG) of the current web page. It can also be used for saving audio, video, PDFs and even Office files from the Internet to Google Drive though it would fail if the size of the file exceeds 25 MB.

All files are saved in the root folder of Google Drive and there isn’t a way to change the default save location. Also, the add-on will initially save the web pages /images to your local computer and then uploads them to your Google Drive. They aren’t transferring stuff directly in the cloud.

You don’t however need the Google Drive app on your computer for this to work.
